Opened my pool storage shed yesterday to find my cover completely shredded after years of patches, and now I'm stuck with this massive tarp I can't dispose of properly. I really don't want to just throw it in the dumpster if there's a better option - it seems like such a waste!

I called my local recycling center and they had no clue what I was talking about. The cover is one of those vinyl ones with the foam backing, so it's not like it's a single material. It looked like any other trash day until my wife stopped me dragging our old vinyl pool liner to the curb and asked why we can't recycle it. The pool company that installed the new one just hauled it away, but now I'm wondering if they're just throwing it in a dumpster somewhere.

Apparently my pool filter started shooting dirty water back into the pool during what I thought was a normal backwash cycle yesterday.

The pool store told me I need to backwash my filter regularly, but I'm honestly not sure what that means or how to do it properly.

I see there's a multiport valve on my filter system with different settings like BACKWASH, RINSE, and FILTER, but I don't want to mess anything up by doing it wrong. During my pool inspection today I'm staring at this above ground liner with wear and fading covering every inch, wondering if this thing can actually be reused. My above ground pool liner is about 3 years old and looks to be in decent shape - no major tears that I can see, though there might be some minor stretching around the edges.
