What is SLAM?
SLAM stands for Shock Level And Maintain. It's a proven method from the Trouble Free Pool community for eliminating algae and clearing cloudy or green pool water.
The Theory
Regular "shock" treatments often fail because chlorine levels drop too quickly. Algae and bacteria need sustained high chlorine levels to be fully killed. SLAM works by:
- Raising chlorine to "shock level" based on your CYA (stabilizer) level
- Maintaining that level 24/7 until all organics are destroyed
- Testing frequently and adding chlorine as needed to stay at shock level
Key insight: You can't "over-shock" by adding more chlorine once. You shock by maintaining the correct level until the pool passes all three completion tests below.
Use our Chlorine Calculator to find your shock level based on CYA.
