The pool delivery truck is coming at 8 AM tomorrow and I'm frantically researching at midnight whether I actually need sand under my 24-foot above ground pool. Last summer when I finally set up my first Intex Easy Set (12 feet, about 2,400 gallons), I've been completely lost on what chemicals I actually need. The manual mentions using chemicals but doesn't give much detail about what's actually required.

I've been running the filter pump for a few days now, but I'm starting to see some cloudy water and what might be the beginning of algae growth on the walls. Do Intex pools really need the same chemical treatment as regular in-ground pools? What's the minimum I need to keep the water safe for my kids to swim in? Before I could even enjoy summer, my above-ground pool liner developed tears along the bottom, fading that makes it look ancient, AND wrinkles that won't smooth out. The pool store quoted me $200+ for a new liner, which seems pretty steep for my budget right now.

Does Walmart actually carry pool liners in stock? I've seen some pool stuff there before but wasn't sure if they'd have the right size or quality. Would love to save some money if possible, but also don't want to buy something that won't last. Any advice from experienced pool owners would be great!…more
