About the third time this season my pool filter balls have turned into a cloudy water nightmare and I'm done playing the guessing game! I switched to filter balls a few months ago hoping they'd be the magic solution, but now I'm wondering if I'm supposed to replace them regularly or what. My pool gets pretty heavy use during summer with the kids and their friends constantly jumping in.

Before I discovered my sand filter was the culprit, my pool was eating through chlorine way faster than it should even with perfect 2.5 ppm levels and 7.4 pH. When I opened up the filter tank to check, I discovered that most of the sand has somehow disappeared - there's maybe 20% left at the bottom.

I'm waiting for a sand delivery that won't arrive for another week, but my pool is getting cloudier by the day. The filter is currently running with just the remaining sand, but I'm worried about potential equipment damage. Already replaced my pool filter sand yesterday but the water's still cloudy — did I mess something up or is Walmart sand just not the right type? Does anyone know if Walmart actually stocks this stuff? I'd love to just grab it during my regular grocery run instead of making another trip to a pool store.

Also, if they do carry it, any idea what brands they have and roughly what I should expect to pay? I don't want to show up and get sticker shock if it's way overpriced compared to other places.…more
